"She'll make it real, as opposed to people sitting back and getting talked at," Emily has been teaching workshops for over a decade across the US. Her first workshop, entitled Heartmarks: A Daughter’s Perspective of Her Mother’s Death From AIDS was 1993, at Purdue University, only 2 weeks after her mother’s death. From there, Emily has gone on to integrate self-defense, self-care, sex and sexuality, healthy communication, grassroots organizing and outreach, feminism, domestic and dating violence, anti-oppression work, gender, nutritional healing, writing, art, and all of the nooks and crannies in between. Her workshops are born not only out of a deep understanding of the subject matter, but out of real-life experience as an organizer, artist, self-defense instructor, community participant, activist, caretaker, and teacher. She’s presented to and for universities, colleges, high schools, junior high schools, non-profits, youth groups, social workers, artists, large corporations, camps, arts and community events, shelters, healthcare professionals, clinics, youth and adult high risk populations, sex workers, and caretakers and support staff for autistic and developmentally and mentally (dis)abled people. Please, feel free to inquire about having Emily create a specialized workshop that will fit your group’s specific needs. |
